This was our second stay in a Varadero hotel in the last 3 months, and the Blau IS in my opinion a tru 4-star hotel, or very very close to 4 stars.

The hotel´s interior architecture is beautiful and welcoming, spacious and warm at the same time.
The staff´s attention stands out in my mind: professional, respectful and guest-centered; none of the staff were in-our-face, which we really appreciated. I heard from a another guest, that he and his wife had been in another Caribbean county recently, and they had experienced that unpleasantness as well. So I guess the Blau has a certain standard or check-up status that helps it´s staff maintain the correct level of professionalism and tropical warmth.
The guests at the hotel were also a very pleasant crowd: well-educated, easy-going and respectul.
The special dinner is definitely worth it: delicious meal and superb service.
We booked the hotel only a week in advance, and select-a-room came through. Amazing!
The meals at the buffet´s were also extremely good. OK, you might get better food at another all-inclusive hotel elsewhere in the third world, but there are limitations that are part of Cuba: perhaps you get a better fresh fruit selection elsewhere in the world, but that´s about it, IMHO.
Did I already say we were extremely pleased with the stay at the Blau???
I´m recommending to friends of mine to just go there and not look around anymore.
