Overview - Dar Les Cigognes Hotel
For centuries, a discreet door opposite the gates to Marrakech’s Royal Palace led to a wealthy merchant's home. Today, behind that door, with the help of celebrity architect Charles Boccara, this has been transformed into the boutique hotel called Dar Les Cigognes. A Riad is a traditional Arab house, traditionally an interior world, which is built around a courtyard with fruit trees and a fountain.
Accommodation - Dar Les Cigognes Hotel
There are just eleven rooms at Dar Les Cigognes, ensuring personal service, a true boutique hotel. Each room follows a unique design theme, drawn from the rich artistic tradition of Morocco.
Three classes of rooms are offered: Superior Rooms, of which there are three; Deluxe Rooms, of which there are seven; and finally, one Suite.
The Zouak and Tataoui Superior rooms can be twinned; the Deluxe Silver Room and the Sahara Room can be twinned, thus allowing families increased privacy and togetherness.
We have opted for cool and soothing colours in the courtyard, while the rooms each take their cue from a different region of Morocco. You will find Berber designs represented, as well as the craftwork of Fes and the other imperial cities. Throughout, we have stayed true to the spirit of a traditional Marrakech riad, but have updated it to suit the requirements of discerning guests.
Local tax of 2.5 euros per person per day is payable locally.
Bars and Restaurants
We operate a full-service restaurant and bar at the hotel, serving all meals and drinks throughout the day. We are happy to serve our guests drinks, afternoon tea, meals, and whatever else, wherever they wish throughout the riad. We are happy to provide room service, and many guests like to take lunch in one of the many bhous, at a table specially set up in one of the courtyards, or even on the roof terraces.
We serve a wide range of Moroccan and Mediterranean dishes, in the traditional way. We use natural, local, fresh ingredients, and prepare everything in the traditional way, by hand. At Dar Les Cigognes, we bake all our own bread and make our own pastries. We do an a la carte lunch and dinner, and can do many special dishes to order. Traditional Moroccan breakfast, with a range of freshly made Moroccan breads, pancakes, and pastries, served with honey, a variety of jams, unforgettably delicious fresh-squeezed orange juice, and a choice of tea or coffee, is included in the room rate.
Other Facilities
To destress and detox, there is no better way than to visit a traditional Moroccan steam bath, a hammam, and have a deeply relaxing massage or rub-down. The Hammam is a traditional Moroccan steam room. Under the marble floors, walls, and benches run pipes with steaming water, raising the temperature of the marble. Water splashed on to the marble fills the air with mist and steam. Guests often combine a visit to the hammam, a truly cleansing experience, with a visit to our spa spa for a relaxing and energising massage or other luxurious treatments, you will be spoilt for choice.
Massage is one of the keys to great well being in life. Our Spa and treatment room is one of the most sublime rooms in Marrakech. With a thirty foot ceiling, and intricately carved stucco windows, adorned with coloured glass, you are sure to find this one of the most spectacular places to have a massage, pedicure, manicure, henna tattoo, facial, waxing, or other beauty and relaxation treatment.
Spa Treatments
Our masseurs and masseusses are all professionally trained, and we offer a variety of massage techniques. Whether you choose shiatsu or a deep tissue massage, you are sure to enjoy our specially designed massage table, and the firm hands of the specialist you choose to give your massage. For total relaxation, combine a massage with a trip to the hammam.
Swimming
Guests at Dar Les Cigognes have access to the swimming pool at Le Sunset free of charge. There you will find a magnificent pool, several restaurants, and one of the best golf courses in all of Morocco. We can organise a driver to take you there and to pick you up. Guests often like to mix a day of golf with a nice lunch and a swim by the pool.
Les Bhous
Travellers to Morocco discover the bhou an expression of quintessential Moorish style. A lounge that is both indoors and outdoors, with plumped up seats and cushions, a place to sit and watch the life of the courtyard drifting by. The elegance and calm of the interiors is echoed by these salons that face the inner court, the "outside inside" a riad.
A bhou is a kind of outdoor seating area found in riad houses. It is in the courtyard, enclosed, but set back into the walls. We have four such seating areas, each with large couches, tables, and vases filled with flowers. Two are downstairs; two are upstairs, and are spread between the two houses. Guests often take tea or breakfast in one of the bhous. Three of the bhous have ornately painted and carved wood ceilings, the other is set into a large recessed arch.
