The Salt cave is a unique method of using salt in healing, relaxing and rehabilitation purposes. The healing impact of salt has been well known since ancient times. The walls have been made of the natural salt blocks (from the Dead Sea), filled with minerals. The unique structure of the cave creates specific sea microbes, which is a natural way to help air-passages, skin diseases, thyroid problems, heart problems and asthma. It helps with depression, allergies and neurosis. A visit to a salt cave works anti-ageing too but most of all allows to forget about a tiring day and relax in a beautiful interior.

    A Little History

Building No 5, known as Merkerts Tenement:
The building was probably erected in 15th century. It was mentioned in 1678 as a property of Wincenty Brykner..
The tenement was bought in 1799 by the merchant Piotr Steiheller.
Since the middle of the 19th century the building belonged to the Merkerts family.
The property was rebuilt several times in the16th century and in the 18th century (the facade only). It was also renovated in 1852 and in 1923.
The tenement has a classicistic facade. The ground floor is separated from the rest of the building by the attics. The attics is decorated with the symbol of Mercury. The upper floors are vertically divided on the three parts by the Ionic pilasters.
In the triangle bridgehead there is a sculpture showing a lying Mercury who is lean against the package with some goods.
Mercury holds a shield with the letters A and M (for Alexander Merkert). That is to show the allegory of trade.

    City Tax

All visitors to Krakow must pay City Tax locally, this amounts to PLN 1.60 ( approx 0,50 euros) per person for each day of their stay. This should be paid at time of check in.
    Children are exempt from paying.
