We strongly recommend our own transfer service for arrival transfers to the hotel to avoid problems of quality and overcharging – St Petersburg airport terminals have many taxi services with varying standards of price and quality. We will advise a meeting point, meet you with a sign board and transfer you directly to your hotel promptly and efficiently.
Our Contractor's View - Dostoevsky Hotel
A very popular hotel in the city centre. Great value for money, good availability - climate control is a real plus in the summer months as some of the older 3-star hotels miss this feature.
The Dostoevsky is officially a 4 star hotel.

The hotel is in a short distance to the city and near the metro station. It is very loud because of the guests .So many classes and groups with children, we thought that it is a youth hostel. There were loud and the sit on the flors in front of there rooms in the nights. In the mornuing they entered the breakfast room and it was loud too. The breakfast was o.k. The coffe was terrible. The reception was not able to change money and the whole time very unfriendly., Fri, 12 Oct 2012 07:43:00 GMT
We had a truly fantastic holiday.
We could not fault your help and service, it made everything so easy.
The only thing I would say is not being told that the Arbat House Hotel in Moscow did not have a license to sell alcohol so could only drink bottled beer! Not that it bothered me but my 3 companions were disappointed.
Thank you for all your help in booking the hotels, steering us in the direction of Visa assistance (could not fault the help here) and the ease at which any questions were answered.
We would definitely use you again.

Thank you for your helpful service. The Hotel Dostoevsky was very well located and provided very good service. Unfortunately we missed our train from Moscow, but managed to book another that night. We could not easily find the station and do not speak Russian so could not ask directions in detail. Select-a-Room instructions re the station are clear, but it would be useful to have reference to a map where several stations are sited together, in this case the metro, regional and long distance. Catching a taxi would solve this but the metro is much quicker in Moscow. Thankyou.PB, Mon, 27 Feb 2012 15:03:00 GMT

I would like to thank you for the service you provided. The visit to Russia came about at short notice so it was very important to be able to book a hotel and get visa support quickly. I was able to achieve this with Select-A-Room within 24 hours which meant i could get my visa application processed without any delay.
The hotel (Dostoevsky, St Petersburg) offered excellent value and a very good location in the centre of St Petersburg. The only minor issue was that the central heating was turned up very high, although this is normal in Russia in the colder months. It's a hotel i would return to next time i am in the city.
Thank you once again.
The hotel has a good location, just around the corner of a subway station and like two blocks away from Nevsky prospect, however you should not expect more than a regular 3 start or 2 star hotel in American standards…the hotel staff is a bunch of young guys not willing to assist you in any possible way…the last day I even ask them if they could call a local number to ask for a regular taxi and they told me no….it’s forbidden but instead offered me a to call a “hotel approved taxi service” and yes I ask about the cost and it was 1,800 rubles!!! Then asked them to give me the country codes so that I could call from my cell phone…didn’t help me, I needed to ask on the street to a pedestrian then I finally made the call and the taxi arrived there in 15 minutes and charged me 800 rubles…this was really annoying, I didn’t expect this type of behavior from any kind of hotel…the breakfast is of very low quality, for fruit they put oranges and bananas, tables are not clean and the staff doesn’t help in any way…beds are not comfortable and the rest of the room ambience is good and clean.Best regards.
The Hotel's Reply:Dear Sir!Thank You for staying at the Dostoevsky hotel while visiting Saint-Petersburg.Thank You for the feedback, your comments would definitely help to improve staff working process. At the present time the hotel has the partnership with one taxi company. They provide a good quality of service and could be recommended to our guests and clients. As for other transportation companies, you can contact any of them any time. And of course, different companies offer different prices, there is no fixed city rate.I will surely pay special attention to your comments about Front Office staff and pass your comments about meals to the Food and Beverage Manager.Looking forward to meeting you at our hotel again.
Thank you Select-a-Room. All arrangements were superb and we had a lovely time in Russia. We can truly recommend your agency.FR, Tue, 06 Sep 2011 14:45:00 GMT
Dear Select-A-Room,JC, Thu, 01 Sep 2011 12:38:00 GMT
We were very pleased with your services; our trip went very well. I will not hesitate to recommend your services to friends, in fact, I have already down so.
In particular, I compliment you on the following successes:
-the availability of internet and phone services: I think you have found a way to make good use of both types of "communication". The consumer (me) thus has quick and easy access to information through the internet, and, by phone, easy access for dealing with specific needs and problems.
-your "internet/phone" employees, both in the UK, and in Russia, were always helpful and patient. Particular thanks to Jan in the UK--who probably hasn't forgotten me!
-the prompt reception of vouchers and visa support papers,
and the clear statement for charges and fees was very professionally done and reassuring.
-the pick up services at the airport, hotel and train station. Although expensive, the drivers were prompt and easy to find, and this was important when visiting a country like Russia where there is a strong language barrier.
-We were very pleased with the Cosmos Hotel. Their information service was instrumental in allowing us to find our way.
Two negative factors:
-while the Dostoevsky Hotel was a good recommendation (well located and not expensive), the staff was not always helpful and there were no information services (maps, for example) available. We had small problems with the rooms which were clean, but not attractive.
-the high cost of the pick-up services in St. Petersburg from the train station to the Hotel which was a very short distance.
Aside from these two slight disappointments, everything was great, and I will certainly check out your site again when planning our next trip.
Thanks for your email. Our trip was just perfect. Service at the hotel was very good. Can warmly recommend this hotel to other travelers. Please be informed that I have over 25 years experience of traveling ands working in Russia and Soviet Union so I know that good and kind service is really hard to find.Location of the hotel is very good and the connections to the city are easy at least for me.There was just a small negative thing and that was the temperature in the room= very hot and the air conditioning did not work at least not like it should have. But like said before I have a long experience in traveling business and remember times when the temperature in the rooms were awfully low, like 13 degrees Celsius so this time the warmth was not that bad..Brgds SFSF, Thu, 01 Sep 2011 12:36:00 GMT

Hotel Dostoevsky – St. Petersburg. When we checked in the clerk was grumpy and not helpful. The day we checked out we found out more about our hotel than we were ever told at check in.Room was extremely warm with no temperature control and no hair dryer was available.
We are very pleased with the travel arrangements you provided for us. The Russian Visa service was also well worth the extra money - we over-heard others talking about very late arrival of their travel visas from other companies.JD, Wed, 31 Aug 2011 07:40:00 GMT
The transfer car was new and air conditioned ( same car and driver both ways ) and although the driver's English was very limited we managed well - a good service. The pick up from the hotel was prompt - the car arrived 15 minutes early and was ready waiting for us.
The hotel was good. The room (standard) was on the small side, but well equipped, modern and spotless. The air conditioning struggled with 4 days of 30C, but most hotels would.
The staff spoke good English, were pleasant and helpful. Location was excellent. Breakfast was a very good buffet style - over the weekend with many locals tours arriving the staff had to work had to keep everything replenished.
At check-in we had to pay an extra 180 Roubles to have our (90 x 2) passports scanned and forwarded to the authorities. At this stage we had no local currency. It would have been useful to have been able to pre-pay this small amount with the hotel bill. In the event we put the amount on a credit card, the receptionist did not ask for another signature, so we were able to settle the amount in cash when we checked out.
All in all an excellent service - well done. We did email the hotel 2 days before our arrival just to confirm our booking, but got no reply.
We then rang your Huntingdon office as was reassured that everything was confirmed, and was given some helpful advise on how busy St Petersburg airport is and how to locate our driver.
